2020 Graduation Update:

Mr. Decker is dedicated to giving the Class of 2020 a proper and formal Graduation Ceremony that will conform to today’s guidelines of social distancing. He along with the faculty and staff feel that it is vital to provide this class with a ceremony of closure to celebrate their time at Gatewood as well as the new chapter in their lives.

Several members of the Gatewood administration and faculty met this morning with Police Chief Kent Lawrence to discuss graduation. The date of graduation has been set for Saturday, June 13, at 10:00 am at Sammons Field. If it rains, the ceremony will be rescheduled for June 20. Graduation attendance will be for graduates, parents, and step-parents only. Chief Lawrence said no siblings or grandparents could attend, and everyone must keep a safe distance from each other. You may still arrange for items like year hoodies and the like to be ordered from the best site you can find to share with everyone you are graduating with, but while we would love to have all of our Gatewood family in attendance, we have to comply with local authorities and when the time is closer we will know more. These are the current plans that are in place to celebrate the Class of 2020. Trust us, all options are being considered daily and are subject to change. It was decided this morning that this graduation ceremony and this date is the best option for Gatewood.

In keeping with a Gatewood tradition, parents will walk on stage (yes there will be a stage!!), and present the diploma to their graduate. The ceremony will be live-streamed to gatewood.live and a professional photographer will be in attendance. The senior video will be shown on the megatron, which can be clearly seen in the morning hours.

The faculty and administration are planning to put forth their best effort to make the 2020 graduation ceremony special. I want to give a big thank you to Candi Moreno, Beth Moss, Josh Ringer, Libby Rainey, Jeff Decker, Buster Douglas, Marty Phillips, Joe Tkacik. and Troy Burner for their enthusiasm and their willingness to volunteer to help with graduation.
