Gatewood Schools is an independent, co-educational, college-preparatory school that offers a superior educational opportunity to qualified students from K3 through twelfth grade.  The mission of the school is to prepare students for a successful college experience and a useful, satisfying life; promote intellectual curiosity and love of learning through faculty excellence and a rigorous program of studies; help students develop a sense of personal honor, ethical commitment, and civic responsibility, as well as, a vision of  academic excellence; support students by creating an atmosphere of trust, mutual respect and responsibility in which each person is valued as an individual; appreciate the background, and encourage the talents and qualities of each individual student; and motivate students to reach their full academic, aesthetic, and spiritual potential.             Gatewood is divided into the Lower School, the Middle School, and the High School.  The Lower School consists of K3 through fifth grade.  During these early years, Gatewood maintains close communication and interaction with parents, an essential factor in the successful progress of a child.  Gatewood’s Middle School consists of grades six through eight.  Because these are important transitional years for students, the curriculum and other activities are designed for the special needs of young adolescents.  Gatewood’s High School expands and further refines the programs begun in the earlier years.  Its core curriculum enhanced by elective offerings provides a strong college activities to be an essential and wholesome part of young people’s lives.  Gatewood provides opportunities for participation and leadership in athletics, literary events, clubs, and community service.
