GISA State Swim Meet Results

The Gatewood Schools competed for the GISA State Swimming Championship against the top 28 schools in the state this past weekend at the Olympic pool at Georgia Tech. GISA swimming is a non-classified sport, meaning that all sizes of schools, AAA, AA and A, compete for the same title.   Swimmers must post a qualifying time during the regular season to swim at the state meet; there were a total of 775 qualifying entries competing for the state titles. All of the Gatewood swimmers posted at least one individual qualifying event time, and both the girls and boys relays made the state cut. The Lady Gators relay team of Lena Visser, Emily Schneider, Camden Roper and Hannah Bell placed 3rd in the Medley Relay and 5th in the Free Relay. The Gatewood Gators boys relay team of Hampton Clark, Scott Schneider, Spencer Rabb and Palmer Clark placed 5th in the Medley Relay and 7th in the Free Relay.  Every one of the Gatewood swimmers set new personal best times during the meet. 

 In order to receive points for your team, relay teams and individual swimmers must place in the top 8 in their respective events. Gatewood Lady Gators placed 3rd in state overall, just 1 point behind 2nd place finisher Atlanta Girls School; Mt. de Sales won the state title for the girls. The girls team finished 1st overall among the 13 AA schools that competed.   The boys team finished 9th overall, and 2nd among their AA competition. The middle school team placed 6th overall in the state competition. Gatewood’s individual finishes are as follows:
 
Juniors:
Lena Visser took over 2 seconds off of her personal best time in the 100 Backstroke to upset the competition and take the state championship for that event; this was the first varsity state title for an individual swimmer in Gatewood’s history.  She also placed 4th in 200 Free and 6th in 100 Breaststroke.
Hampton Clark placed 9th in 100 Fly, 13th in 50 Free and 14th in 100 Breaststroke.
Scott Schneider placed 37th in 50 Free.
 
Sophomore, Spencer Rabb placed 2nd in 100 Backstroke, 6th in 200 Free and 11th in 100 Free.
 
Freshmen:
Emily Schneider placed 4th in 50 Free, 5th in 100 Free and 11th in 100 Breaststroke.
Palmer Clark placed 9th in both the 50 Free and 100 Breaststroke.
Camden Roper placed 12th in 50 Free, 13th in 100 Backstroke and 18th in 100 Free.
Hannah Bell placed 22nd in 100 Backstroke.
 
Middle School Swimmer and 8th Grader, Matthew Dent, also set a personal best time to become the state champion for 50 Breaststroke; he also placed 2nd in 100 IM and 3rd in 50 Free.
